The Leaf & Pumpkin Composting program is just one of the many ways people can reduce waste, reuse and recycle to help Calgary achieve the goal of diverting 80 per cent of its waste by the year 2020.
The 2013 Leaf & Pumpkin Composting program will run from Sept. 27 to Nov. 10.

During this program you can recycle your bagged leaves and pumpkins by taking them to a leaf and pumpkin composting drop-off location.
Drop-off locations: Seasonal neighbourhood drop-offs are set up in 36 convenient locations around Calgary. View a list of drop-off locations or download a map.
Brown bags are best: We encourage you to use paper yard waste bags, available at many local yard and garden retailers.
•Better for the environment: Because these bags are made of paper, they are completely compostable along with the leaves and pumpkins, leaving no waste behind. Plastic bags are not compostable and are unfit for recycling after the contents are removed, so all that plastic ends up in the landfill.
•More efficient: City workers can put paper yard waste bags straight into the compost rows without the additional step of opening the bags and removing the contents.
Do you also accept plants from my garden?
This program is intended for leaves and pumpkins only. Other yard waste can be taken to one of the City landfill sites where charges may apply.
