Home builders’ chief sees challenges, balanced market

The new president of the Canadian Home Builders Association in Calgary says she sees challenges ahead for the housing market but that things are more balanced.
Wendy Jabush told the Calgary Herald that homebuyers in the city are making careful decisions about purchases, which slows the market, but that things are doing okay.
Jabush, who is also VP of Calgary Homes at Brookfield Residential, says that the negative stories focus on comparing this year to last, which was a record-breaker.
The house building industry in Calgary faces some challenges, not least the supply of skilled labour, but Jabush says that builders and city officials share some “high level common goals” which makes for a positive working relationship.
She says that supply of land is an issue but recognizes that it is a balance that needs to be carefully managed between the council, industry and homebuyers.
